JOB SUMMARY

The Business Development Manager creates and builds client relationships, manages the internal process to convert customer requirements (RFQ/RFP) into quote proposal responses, and manages the team of Product Design Engineers who project manage the execution post-sale. They will manage client accounts and develop/execute strategies for new customer leads. As a member of the company management team, they will collaborate with the other functional managers on strategies, process improvement, and quality system management and execution. This position reports directly to the General Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties as assigned.

  • Develop and execute sales, customer and market growth strategies and plans.
  • Manage and retain relationships with existing clients and new clients at all levels, and work closely with customers’ procurement and engineering groups.
  • Manage and direct internal and external resources to meet or exceed new and assigned customer expectations, collaborating with internal supply chain and production teams, and working to understand internal business constraints and plans.
  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of business products and value proposition.
  • Act as the lead reviewing quotes from the engineering team for pricing, margin, and lead-time, prior to responding with written proposal in response to customer’s RFP/RFQ.
  • Negotiate product pricing, returns and credits with new and assigned customers as well as negotiate delivery methods and time frames.
  • Communicate back to internal groups the outcome of the negotiations/proposals focusing on conveying the expectations set forth for each group, i.e., clear details, critical timeframes, and expectations.
  • Manage/Lead the team of 4-5 Product Design Engineers who project manage the quotation process and the execution of project wins,post-sale.
  • Develop and report to the business, Key Process Indicators (KPIs) for the department such as Quote/Win ratio, Quote pipeline, and Demand Forecast.
  • Engage in continuous improvement and foster teamwork and a positive work environment while developing a culture of ownership and accountability.
  • AS9100 QMS (Quality Management System) – understand AS9100 requirements, Trek’s Quality System/Manual, and how processes related to sales engineering within and comply with these requirements.
  • Research business opportunities and potential customers by following industry trends.
  • Attend trade shows and industry conferences for educational and customer-oriented purposes.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or business Management or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years business experience in a company the designs and/or manufactures technical products.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a sales engineering management role or equivalent.
  • Aerospace Manufacturing experience is strongly preferred.
  • Previous CRM/ERP experience preferred.
  • Proven experience in communicating technical requirements and issues and working with customers on technical projects.
  • AS9100/ISO9000 Quality Management system compliance and experience preferred.

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be US Citizen due to contractual requirements with the US Navy.
  • Microsoft Excel – advanced skills in data analysis, manipulation, parsing, lookups, formulas, tables, and charts. Skills tests will be required.
  • Leadership – strong leader, who leads by example, influencer and requires accountability while providing the required tools and support. Including coaching and motivating employees.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Self-motivated team builder with strong multitasking, analytical thinking, problem solving and leadership skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents such as routing, blueprints, drawings, specifications, bills of material, and procedure.
  • Must be able to drive/travel to customer sites, trade shows, conferences, meetings etc.
  • Must be able to report to Lumberton, NJ office during scheduled in-office workdays.
